Open Studios!

Lydia Pinkham Open Studios is an annual, volunteer-run event where the artists of the historic Lydia Pinkham Building in Lynn, Massachusetts open their doors to welcome visitors from across Lynn, the North Shore, Greater Boston, and beyond.

Lynn’s reputation as a hub of arts and culture on the North Shore is growing. For over a decade, the artists of the Lydia Pinkham Building have contributed to this success, showcasing some of the best creations Lynn has to offer, and providing an inside look at the artistry and creative process driving Lynn’s renaissance.

Last year's Open Studios event drew over 1,000 attendees, viewing and purchasing work from our talented artists. After such a milestone turnout, we are thrilled to be expanding our 2017 hours to 10am–5pm on both Saturday and Sunday November 18 and 19!

With more than 40 individual artists (and counting!) in over 25 studios, this unique, free event gives residents and visitors the opportunity to engage with artists, purchase their work, and discover the stories behind our latest creations. Visitors of all ages are welcome and there is always something of interest for everyone.

Buti + Bubbly

WHAT IS BUTI YOGA?
This calorie-scorching workout fuses power yoga with cardio-intensive tribal dance + body sculpting primal movement. Buti Yoga utilizes the Spiral Structure Technique to sculpt + tone the deep abdominal muscles that stabilize and strengthen the body. Instead of linear movements, this practice favors movements that challenge the body along all planes of motion - THE RESULT - long, lean muscle with sexy feminine curves.

Join us at Mission on the Bay at 141 Humphrey St. Swampscott, MA for a Buti Flow led by Shanel Anderson and Kimberly Washington! We'll sweat and flow at the Ocean Bar on the roof deck and then stick around to enjoy a complimentary Mimosa (or non alcoholic beverage) and mingle. The best part? We'll have first dibs on the Ocean Bar so you can sit and relax and stay for brunch!

Cost: $35

Paddle & Flow with Shanel Anderson

Join us for a super fun night of Stand up Paddleboarding out of Salem Willows and a peaceful mini flow on Winter Island led by Soul City Owner Shanel Anderson. We will paddle back to the willows as the sun sets! Here are the details from our friends at Coast to Coast Paddle:

We will meet at the Coast to Coast Paddle Kiosk at Salem Willows between 6:15-6:30pm. The kiosk is located down near the pier, across from Hobbs Popcorn. It is a gray shed that says Coast to Coast Paddle on it.

We will aim to get on the water around 6:30 and paddle over to Winter Island. Once we get there, you will lead a 30min yoga class and then we will hop back on the boards and paddle back to enjoy what will hopefully be a beautiful sunset on the water!

The event will last until around 8:15(ish)

Paddleboarding is open to all levels and our paddle portion will be catered towards beginners, so everyone should feel welcome! We will provide instruction and assistance while on the water. People should dress in whatever they are comfortable getting wet in. Some people choose to just wear a swimsuit while others wear a tank and running capris or something similar. Most people choose to go barefoot on the board, but we encourage everyone to wear flip flops or a water shoe for getting down to the beach and walking over any rocks/shells. It's also a good idea to bring a sweatshirt and towel for afterwards, in case anyone ends up taking a swim :) (We can lock things in our shed while we are out on the water)

Cost: $40

Barre Teacher Training (Level 2)

Barre Teacher Training (Level 2)

Barre classes are known for being empowering, effective and fun. They feature fluid athletic workouts specifically designed to strengthen and lengthen, without the bulk. The classes are fueled by upbeat music and efficiently flow through each muscle group. Barre workouts create endurance and stamina. Clients quickly build strength through strength training and experience increased flexibility through stretching. The movements in a Barre class are influenced by many different modalities including Pilates, Yoga, and classical ballet Barre exercises initially developed for orthopedic rehabilitation.

Our Barre teacher training, The Magnolia Method, will offer you all the tools you need to be a polished instructor fully prepared to teach the dynamic pace of Barre classes.  The Magnolia Method focuses on anatomical alignment which is at the heart of each of our intelligent movement classes. The training offers a large array of exercises used to build your repertoire and offers you a complete understanding of dynamic opposition, teaching methodologies, body language assessment, and hands-on adjustments.

This Barre teacher training program is truly unique in its approach! Our Barre training method creates movement exercises from an anatomically and structurally sound perspective. We are driven by quality not quantity, and strive to create teachers who view themselves as movement educators, not just fitness instructors. Teachers who tend to gravitate towards our programs naturally represent our brand with the integrity and respect it is already known for. In this same vein of quality over quantity we limit training sizes.

About your Trainers:

Anne Davis and Jessica Little are Co-Directors of Rasamaya Barre Teacher Training and Co-Owners of Magnolia, a barre, yoga and life studio in Portland Maine. Anne and Jessica have over 20 years of experience teaching movement and are excited to share their love of barre and anatomy with new teachers. They are passionate about mentoring students to create fun, effective and safe classes for students of all fitness levels.

Yoga en Español with Victoria Garcia Drago

Yoga is the union of body, mind and spirit. Through breathing (which is used as a focal point for the mind) a state of conscious awareness is achieved. This means that one quiets the mind to receive messages from the body (through sensations). In the Yoga class in Spanish you will learn to concentrate the mind, making conscious and coordinated movements with breathing (asanas), to develop more flexibility in your body and feel stronger mentally and physically.
